Dr. Kenneth D. Kemp

Dr. Kemp has some of the most extensive training and accolades of any foot and ankle physician in the entire Caribbean. He has specialty training in podiatry, which encompasses foot and ankle surgery, wound care, dermatology, biomechanics and sports medicine.  

Education/Training

Dr. Kemp graduated from St. John’s College (high school) with a prefect award, deportment award, emerald club award, the principal’s award for outstanding student excellence and he was the first recipient of the Fr. Dunston Burrows memorial award. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in biology from York University in Toronto, Canada, where after a vigorous interview process, he was selected as the first Bahamian Student Ambassador. He graduated from York with the president’s honor for student excellence. Dr. Kemp then studied at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences and was selected as their 2006-2007 class president. During his tenure at Michener, he frequently earned above a 3.90 GPA on a 4.0 scale and volunteered at various podiatry and wound care clinics including Sunnybrook & Women’s College Hospital and St. Michael’s Hospital. At Michener he was awarded the Ron Bentley memorial award of excellence. He interned for one year at Ottawa General Hospital in Canada and after successfully passing his Canadian board exams, he transferred to Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

At Temple University (Podiatric Medicine) Dr. Kemp graduated with honors receiving the Jay Robert Rappaport Humanitarian award, the NPMA excellence in research award and the AAPPM practice management award. Prior to graduation, he successfully passed all 3 of his American board exams. He then left to pursue a three year residency at the world renowned and prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, voted (out of 6 thousand) as one of the top ten hospitals in the entire U.S.  Within two years, he was unanimously selected as their 2010-2011 Foot and Ankle Surgery Chief Resident and was given two (2) gifts, two (2) certificates and three (3) Crystal Awards of Excellence, the department’s highest honor, prior to his departure.

Through-out this time Dr. Kemp was exposed to a myriad of podiatric conditions and treatment initiatives and therein became interested in the management of high-risk diabetic patients, specifically in caring for recalcitrant ulceration, cosmetic podiatry and biomechanics/ sports medicine. He’s had the opportunity to work with royalty, aristocrats, celebrities, politicians, professional athletes and some of the best trained physicians in the entire world. 

Accomplishments

Dr. Kemp is a respected author and lecturer and has numerous pending publications for his clinical evaluation and analysis of issues ranging from wound care to dermatological pedal concerns.

He has taken distance education courses at Harvard Medical School and is a member of their post-graduate association. He has additionally received more than 15 awards and certifications and his achievements have furthermore been highlighted in local newspapers and magazines on several occasions.

Dr. Kemp was selected as the cover (with inside feature story) for the April 2014 edition of both Bahamas Sports Magazine and GoGlobal Magazine. Both issues were so successful that he was invited to be a permanent medical contributor for the two publications for the following year. To date, he is the youngest person ever selected to serve as the deputy chairman for a health council in The Bahamas, where he continues to serve as a tenured consultant. He is also the co-vice chairman for The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Kemp is a columnist for the Tribune newspaper, authoring ‘The KDK Report’ - the most widely read health column in The Bahamas.
